Looking for more natural, noninvasive therapies to better your health?  2Feet 2Health Reflexology Center offers the following complementary/holistic therapies:

  • Reflexology
  • Reiki
  • Bach Flower Remedies

The major benefits of all three therapies are:

  • To reduce stress
  • To promote relaxation
  • To improve circulation
  • To decrease pain and anxiety
  • To enhance overall health

What is Reflexology?

  • It involves the use of alternating pressure applied to reflex maps resembling the human body, which are believed to exist on the feet, hands and outer ears
  • It is profoundly relaxing – the first step in the body balancing and healing itself
  • It is performed on a fully clothed person – only footwear is removed
  • It is different from foot massage and fully recognized as a separate and distinct modality by the American Massage Therapy Association

History of Reflexology:

  • The basis for reflexology lies with Dr. William Fitzgerald, who in the early 1900s developed the zone theory of the human body, arguing that certain body parts corresponded to other parts and proving that pressure application to one area of the body anesthetized a corresponding area
  • Dr. Joseph Shelby Riley, in 1924, expanded upon Dr. Fitzgerald's work by adding horizontal zones to Dr. Fitzgerald's vertical zones, thereby producing the first map resembling a shape of the human body on the feet and hands
  • Eunice Ingham, a physiotherapist for Dr. Riley and a fellow advocate of the zone theory, eventually mapped the entire body onto the feet
  • Dr. Paul Nogier is credited with mapping the reflexes on the ears in 1957

Standards of Practice for Reflexology:

  • Certification from an accredited reflexology school involving a minimum of 200 hours should be obtained by anyone purporting to do reflexology.
  • Board certification is also available through the American Reflexology Certification Board (ARCB).ARCB's primary aim is to certify the competency of those reflexologists who practice on a professional basis and wish to be recognized as meeting national skill and knowledge standards. The ARCB test involves a written test comprised of 300 questions, a practical test that tests technique aptitude and communication skills, and a documented portion that tests one's ability to document sessions and make professional assessments.

What is Reiki?

  • It is a "laying on of hands" touch healing system
  • Reiki means "universal energy"
  • Reiki practitioners receive attunements, divided into three degrees (Reiki I, II, and III), that increase the positive power of one's ability to channel Ki, or energy
  • These attunements set Reiki apart form other forms of hands-on healing techniques

What are the Bach Flower Remedies?

  • The Flower Remedies were first discovered by Dr. Edward Bach in the 1930s
  • There are 38 Bach Flower Remedies, in addition to Rescue Remedy, which is a combination of five of the Flower Essences
  • They work by treating an individual and not any specific disease
  • The Remedies focus on an individual's personality and work to overcome negative emotional and mental states of an individual that can lead to physical illness

It is the role of a Bach Flower Practitioner to lead a person on a journey of self-discovery in order to uncover his/her basic personality type(s) and the ways in which he/she deals with life mentally and emotionally; to educate one in the Bach Flower System; and to help facilitate one's choice of Essence or Essences
